The Fish & The Ocean

3 years ago, almost to the day, with a pregnant wife I had to close 3 of my businesses, the credit processors froze our funds for 60 days and like most of the world we were asked to stay home.

Our son is now 2 and a half and we have a 9 months old daughter. It’s March 2023 and while one business never re-opened and we had to borrow a shit load of money to keep our gyms open, we are all happy and healthy.

Recently my son started watching movies and his favorite and now one of my favorite movies is an animated movie Soul.

The teacher voiced by Jamie Foxx is an aspiring musician who never caught his “big break” and is now a high school music teacher. I don’t want to spoil the movie so I will leave the rest of the plot there, but near the end he hears a fable about a fish.

A young fish swims up to an older fish and says;

“I’m trying to find this thing they call the ocean”

The older fish responds; “The Ocean? “That’s what you’re in right now”

The young fish replies; “This? This is water. What I want is the ocean”

Like many young athletes and young entrepreneurs, I have spent my life in the “water” searching for the Ocean.

While there have been many lessons that came from the pandemic, the one that stands out to me is that life is happening right now and every aspect of life; the good, the bad and the ugly all have a beauty to them, when you live in the moment.

If you are not careful you will miss every moment searching for a future happiness that does not exist.
